Project Management Class, Effective Communication

Before Construction Science students embark on their semester long internship, they are required to complete lower-level courses. This internship has applied to real-world situations the lessons we had learned in class. In my Estimating I and my Estimating II class we learned how to measure materials and price them. This was a skill that was applied all throughout my internship as mentioned in the past slides. Per my Project Management class, effective communication was taught. Since I am bilingual, I am able to communicate in English and Spanish. There was no excuse of a language barrier that should hinder the understanding of tasks. I had an advantage being able to communicate in their native language. While working with the non-profit organization, we were required to submit bids in a timely manner. My Project Planning class taught me how to create schedules and to follow them as well to meet deadlines. Throughout the past few months I have gained knowledge on various aspects of the construction world. When managing a construction company, you realize the hindrance that rain and bad weather can become. Personally, rain is my favorite weather, but as we progressed through the internship I realized that it can create much stress by delaying the schedule for days. When weather becomes a problem, solutions need to be found quickly to not further delay the schedule. Managing people, time, and money is the main focus that every project manager is worried about.
